How to Pose Naturally in Wedding Photos (Even If You Feel Awkward)

Are you fearing your upcoming nuptials because of your fear of being in front of the camera? Yeah! Well read on reader.

You are not alone and you’re definitely not “bad” at photos.

You’ve probably seen those wedding images that look effortless. Soft laughter, real connection where you can feel the love, nothing forced.

And then there’s that quiet annoying thought and mild doubt creeping in:

“There is no way I will look that good on my wedding day.”

Oh honey, I see you and hear you.

If you feel awkward, stiff, or unsure in front of a camera, the problem isn’t you.

It’s that no one ever taught you how to feel natural in photos. They also probably threatened you while yelling at you to smile. *cough* Mom’s across the world *cough*. #guilty

Most traditional posing is built on perfection and performance, not connection.

Growing up you’re told to:

  • Stand up tall; and as my grandma always said “knockers up.”

  • Place your hands “just right” or hide those ugly things.

  • Smile on cue or “cheese” or “so help me God…”

And suddenly, you’re not in the moment anymore…

You’re thinking. You’re giving deer in the headlights. You’re giving childhood trauma flashbacks.

SO ya that’s why trad posing feels stiff, awkward and uncomfortable.

Well if you made it this far, I'm sure you're dying to hear the secret to more natural wedding photos and the answer is….

Therapy!

Just kidding (well kind of) therapy is mas importante.

But really,

Natural and effortless photos come from my favorite MCM.

Movement, Connection and Mindfulness.

  • Movement- think confidence on point, she is grace imagine Miss Congeniality.

  • Connection- think intimate touches and eye contact.

  • Mindfulness- think of the present moment, the here and now.

Once you put all three of these into action and allow the feelings to flow… You’ll look like the goddess you are in every damn photo.

Sooo yeah if you’re worried about how you will look on your wedding day or if you’ve ever felt stiff, awkward, deer in the headlights-ish, when a camera comes out. YOU’RE NOT ALONE

Guess what, you don’t have to figure it out on your own either.
